PCE projects range from investigations into small local environmental concerns such as public complaints, to analysis of major environmental issues and legislative changes. Some of the major current projects include:

Title Timeframe
The former Fruitgrowers Chemical Company site in Mapua is the worst known contaminated site in New Zealand. A major clean-up began in October 2004, but the PCE is investigating complaints about the management of the clean-up operations.
mid-2008
A review of land tenure in much of the South Island's high country is now underway. Parts of some Crown pastoral leases are being freeholded, and some land is being returned to the Crown. A look at the land's sustainable management, environmental risks, and its future use are part of a PCE investigation.
